Our Story

So this is how the Ganeshotsav in Urankar Wadi began…..

Lokmanya Tilak made Ganeshotsav public and started public Ganeshotsav in Mumbai Pune. Girgaon being a bustling area of ​​Marathi people at that time, naturally many public Ganeshotsavs started. The enthusiastic young people of Urankarwadi also decided that they should also start Ganeshotsav in the wadi.
Among those youth were mainly Kamlakar Chonkar, Prabhakar Chonkar, Shankar Mali, Kabu Naik, Haribhau Sawant, Masurkar, Vithu Malekar, Manya Dandekar, Dattu Patil etc.
The owner of the wadi resides on the second floor in chala number one, his name is Shri. Anantrao Paudwal.
While the owners met the young men of the mansion to start the celebration. Naturally, the owners agreed to cooperate to the best of their ability.
In the year 1926, on the first Saturday of the month of Shravan, a meeting of the residents of the wadi was held in the exercise school premises. The meeting was very crowded. The outline of the festival was decided. President Mr. Anantrao Paudwal, Vice President Mr. Babasaheb Pradhan, Acting Mr. Ramrao Mankame and Mr. Burande. It was decided to appoint Mr. Kamlakar Chonkar and Mr. Haribhau Sawant, the head of the volunteer team and one representative from each floor on the festival committee.
In Urankar wadi there were 85 biharadas in all chalis. It was decided to take a subscription of one rupee 25 paise from each biharada. It was decided to install Ganapati in the gallery where Pitale lives now. It was decided to put a pavilion in the middle square and put a stage next to the bungalow. Chowrang and Samai from Motiram Kale and Ganapati’s back mirror from Valanju. Shri Shirsat, Nana Purohit, young artists took responsibility for the decoration.
